These are not faults and are inherit within the stone which stems from the time the block is extracted from the mountains in the quarry it comes from. The Bottega is a square green marble coffee table 1300mm x 1300mm x 355mm with a smooth flat top and four sides completely covered in hand-carved diamond faceting. Each face of the table is worked into a repeating geometric pattern of pointed pyramidal forms, cut from the same solid Verde Guatemala marble as the top. The contrast between the carved texture on the sides and the smooth surface above it is the defining visual character of this piece.
Verde Guatemala is quarried in Guatemala and is one of the most distinctive green marbles available a deep forest green with bold white veining that runs through the stone in sharp contrast. The colour and veining are consistent through the full depth of the block, so the faceted carving on the sides exposes the same stone character as the top surface. Each cut face catches light differently depending on the angle, which means the table reads differently at different times of day.
At 1300mm square the Bottega is a large-format coffee table it anchors a seating arrangement rather than sitting within one. The flat top provides a generous surface for books, objects and entertaining, while the carved sides mean the table is as visually interesting from across the room as it is up close.
