The touch of Carrara marble elevates any space, infusing it with an ineffable beauty that transcends time. Characterized by its dominant white or white-gray hue, Carrara marble is a canvas of pure elegance, adorned with veins that meander from shades of blue-gray to deep charcoal gray.

Carrara marble's legacy traces back to ancient Rome, with the very first slabs hewn from Tuscany's quarries. Its role in art and architecture is undeniable, weaving a narrative that spans centuries of creative excellence.

A Victorian arched Carrara marble fireplace surround 1940mm wide and 1200mm tall with a rounded arch opening framed by shell-form corbels on either side and a carved keystone at the crown of the arch. The corbels are the defining detail: the shell form is a classical motif that appears throughout 19th century domestic architecture, and here it is hand-carved from the same Carrara marble as the surround itself.

The jambs feature recessed panel mouldings that reinforce the architectural character of the piece without adding the dense carving complexity of the larger Grand Victorian mantel. This is a considered, refined Victorian fireplace the right choice for Victorian and Edwardian homes, country houses, and formal living rooms where you want historical authenticity without the visual weight of a fully ornate piece.

The stone is Carrara marble, quarried in the Apuan Alps in Tuscany. Its bright white base and fine blue-grey veining made it the material of choice for 19th century English and Irish mantel makers the combination of its workability, brightness and clarity of veining allows carved detail like the shell corbels to read sharply against the stone surface.

At 1940mm wide with a Square Return profile it suits standard Victorian fireplace openings and installs cleanly against a chimney breast of that width.

The Victorian Arched Carrara Marble Fireplace Surround measures 1940mm wide x 1200mm tall x 360mm deep overall. The internal arch opening measures 1104mm wide x 923mm tall — this is the clear opening through which the firebox or insert will be visible. If your existing fireplace opening is close to but not exactly these dimensions, custom sizing is available on request.
