Stone being a natural product may contain fissures, cracks, holes and pits. These are not faults and are inherit within the stone which stems from the time the block is extracted from the mountains in the quarry it comes from. Whilst this product pictured is the exact product you will be receiving with the purchase, photos taken may show a slightly different representation due to angles and lighting used during photography.

Materials & Finishes

Calacatta Viola marble is quarried from the Apuan Alps in Tuscany the same mountain range that has produced the world's most significant decorative stone for over two thousand years. The Viola variety is distinguished by its white base and the depth of its veining: grey patterns and soft fawn swirls undercut by deep purple-black and mauve accents that give the stone an unusually rich tonal range. The purple colouration comes from manganese oxide and iron compounds present in the marble during its formation under heat and pressure over millions of years. It is not a surface treatment or dye the colour runs through the full depth of the stone.

Every slab of Calacatta Viola is geologically unique. The veining pattern, the intensity of the purple accents, and the distribution of grey and fawn tones will vary from block to block. The basin you receive will match the character of the product photography but will carry its own specific pattern this is inherent to natural marble and is what distinguishes it from engineered or synthetic alternatives.

The basin, pedestal column, and waste cap are carved from the same marble. There is no ceramic understructure, no composite substrate, and no secondary material the stone is continuous from the basin interior to the floor. The waste cap in particular is a detail rarely seen outside bespoke stone manufacturing; most stone basins use a chrome or plastic waste fitting. On the Calacatta Viola Pedestal Basin it is carved from the same block, maintaining the integrity of the material throughout.

The surface is finished to a honed matte finish. Honed Calacatta Viola has a smooth, tactile surface that diffuses light softly across the veining rather than reflecting it sharply it reads as refined rather than glossy, and shows less surface marking in daily use than a polished finish.

The Calacatta Viola Pedestal Basin is hand-carved from a single solid block of Calacatta Viola marble, quarried from the Apuan Alps in Tuscany one of the most architecturally significant marbles available. At 1200mm, this is a statement basin designed to be the focal point of a generous bathroom, not a background detail.

The stone is defined by its crisp white base and the distinctive character of its veining grey patterns and fawn swirls undercut by deep purple-black and mauve accents that give Calacatta Viola its unusually dramatic depth. No two slabs are identical. The veining pattern on your basin will be specific to the block it was carved from.

The basin, pedestal, and waste cap are all carved from the same marble continuity of material from surface to floor, with no break in stone or colour. This is the detail that separates a piece like this from basins where a stone top sits over a ceramic or composite pedestal.
